Dennis André Ballwieser is a journalist focusing on medicine, public health, science and ethics. Dennis holds a managing editorial position with Wort & Bild Verlag, Baierbrunn near Munich, publisher of Germany’s leading magazine Apotheken Umschau. Dennis is responsible for all editorial content of Wort & Bild Verlag’s publications, digital and print. This health publication with a monthly circulation of moren than eight million copies reaches more than 18 million readers per month, and more than 15 million unique users per month. He is the co-host of Gesundheit-Hoeren.de‘s podcast “Klartext Corona” on the Covid-19 pandemic.

Before working for Wort & Bild Verlag, Dennis was a health desk editor at SPIEGEL ONLINE, based in Hamburg, Germany. He is still contributing to SPIEGEL ONLINE’s successful series “Ein rätselhafter Patient” (an enigmatic patient), where he and colleague Heike Le Ker narrate mysterious or baffling case reports. In 2014, Heike and Dennis published a book featuring cases from the series.

He is a physician and worked as an anesthetist at Ludwig-Maximilans-Universität München‘s University hospital in Munich, Germany.

Dennis received his M. D. from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München in Munich, Germany, and was trained as a journalist at Deutsche Journalistenschule (German School of Journalism) in Munich, Germany.
